See what's new in the queer world

JANUARY - Scientific paper of the month

“Contexts and motives of intimate partner violence among sexual and gender minority young adults assigned female at birth.” (Whitton, et al., 2025).

ARTICLE SUMMARY: IPV is common among SGM-AFAB young adults, but its context and motives are poorly understood. Interviews with 39 individuals revealed IPV often stemmed from power imbalances, stigma, infidelity, and unhealthy dynamics. Triggers included conflict, technology use, substance use, and breakups, with motives ranging from emotional expression to control and self-defense. Findings highlight the need for prevention efforts focused on emotional regulation, power awareness, and reducing stigma.
